My Manager/Dad
Involved with bikes since he was thirteen, by helping out at DRM racing in Kirkcaldy..(on Beatties Brae). He started racing at seventeen, end of 1978, some crazy photos from back then ha ha . He has raced everything from 200cc class through to GP250, GP350, and GP500 bikes, all at national level. Garfield was production racing through most of the eighties and nineties, then moved up to the big open class (1000 cc) from 2000 onward. He also did a bit of classic racing and won the Melville Club and Open Classic Championships in 2006.
Throughout Garfield’s racing career, although not a particularly illustrious one (his words) he tried to help fellow racers who he thought had talent. He was always lucky enough to be able to spot who was “up and coming”, those included John Macdonald – multiple Scottish champion , John Crawford – British champion, Chris Palmer – British champion, Jim Moodie – British champion and multiple TT winner..Amongst others….
Garfield says – By far and away the most naturaly talented and gifted that I have ever seen (apart from my Jodie) would be Johnny Mac… Although I wouldnt let on to him, for fear of his head not fitting through the door HAHA and of course not forgetting big Gordon Thomson, Scottish and British championship contender…I have not missed a year of racing and although only racing once last year I intend renewing my licence again.
